Welcome to 'The Pouting Cavalier' Website

I am the Pouting Cavalier and it is my mission to bring you photographs and information concerning some of the UK's many English Civil War locations.  I do not claim to be provide the definitive history of these places but hope to give a brief overview from a Civil War perspective. Some of the sites will be castles that have been besieged, some will be battlefield sites but others are simply villages that happened to be the scene of a skirmish or some small action.  What links all of them is that they have some Civil War history...and that I have had my picture taken in them or near them pouting and camping it up in a way only I know how.

I do not intend any disrespect. These places have seen battles resulting in many thousands of dead and the Civil War is clearly one of the darkest hours in this countries history. This site is not intended as a serious Civil War resource, but neither does it aim to trivialise so many tragic deaths. Perhaps, you can consider it part of a more romantic tradition. Whilst, I don't imagine for one minute that Prince Rupert, Prince Maurice or Lord Goring were inveterate pouters, I like to imagine that pouting is part of their lineage of dandification, indulgence and devil may care attitude. Sometimes all a fella can do is stretch out, suck in his cheeks and do what comes naturally...pout!
